Thursday was MTV day. Went along with Mark n Jo as they were kinda shorthanded for their shoot. Partly also because I wanted to experience it a little and also to take a look at the locations. My job for the day was to flim the "making of/behind the scenes" video. Downside was that I had to start out at 5.30am. Can't remember the last time I woke up that early!!
We all met up in office and moved off at about 6am. 7 of us squeezed into a bright yellow van (transport for the day) together with loads of equiptment and were on our way to Location No.1 for the day: Changi Sand Quarry. Wow...I've certainly never been to one. Travalled around changi for a bit as we got kinda lost. But it was ok with the cool morning breeze blowing into the van and the nice view I got. Passed by the runways of the airport, saw a plane landing. Something I've always liked to see :)
We finally found lampost 147! Location marker...on a lampost!!!? That's how ulu is the place is. It really looked it to. We had a bumpy ride in as there was no more road...just sand tracks. After bumping along for sometime, we finally came to the location point. Time to begin setting up.
Wah... I really must say...despite the ulu-less, this place was kinda special! So many nice textures and interesting photos to take. There was an unused runway and one in use just next to it, behind a barbed wire fence. The whole place was, erm, well, sandy! But I liked it. I really don't see any way I'll ever come here again!
Weather wasn't very good. It was sunny at first but as the day passed, the clouds rolled in. And soon, it was raining. No, wait... pouring!! And super windy. The kind where you can hear the wind blowing pass your ear. Brrr... We had to halt shooting a few times due to the on and off showers and that made us fall behind time on schedule.
Oh. And while we were there a family of doggies came up to say hello and probably look for food. Poor things! They were all skinny! :( I had to give my bread to them. I think they needed it more than me. They were cute coz they waited patiently for me to throw them the bread pieces. After our friendly encounter with each other, they kind of hung around during the whole shoot, coming up to the van whenever I went there. :)
Despite being wild dogs, i thought the Mama dog was really sweet looking actually. Aww.....
We finally wrapped up the shoot at about 2pm and headed back out into civilization again. Byebye doggies! Take care! :(
On to lunch and location 2. Mitre Hotel at Killney Road.
Most of us were staving by then!
For those of you who have never been or heard of Mitre Hotel, hehe, well, let's just say that its not your everyday, normal kind of hotel. For one thing, Mitre Hotel is 140 years old and definately looks like it has not been renovated or cleaned for 140 years! Well, it sure is quaint, old, erm..musty and... not to mention it looks like it is falling apart! Good to know that it is currently being refurbished coz it would probably be declared structually unsafe if not done so soon.
The entrance to Mitre is an old, worn out gate and the hotel is atop the slope. Don't remember seeing any sign board or indication that its a hotel from out there. But it apprently has a good following with many expats here. The rooms are on the 2nd floor which we did not get to see as only tenants are allowed up. I can't imagine how the rooms would look like really. Mitre has a mixed up collection of retro, vintage, old looking chairs. The real authentic kind... probably a collection made up over 140 years!
Below are some pics of this special place. Shooting went on here till 12am. Haha...of coz by then I had already called it a day. It was an interesting experience but also a tiring day!
