Illustration Friday-Intricate

I always thought traditional batik fabrics were lovely, filled up with intricate patterns. Some had animal or plant motifs and others had repeated abstract patterns.
I did get to try batik when i was studying, and it was a challenge dripping the wax out evenly. the tool used to dispense the wax was called a canting, a wooden handled tool with a tiny metal cup with a tiny spout, out of which the wax seeps. mine always clogged up...
So, here's my doodled pen and ink version of batik. :P

This is a beautiful design and if it was meant to make up for your clogged wax spout it does that and then some.

This is so nice, I absolutely love the colours. When I was playing with batik my canting was always clogging as well, either that or spilling wax everywhere or burning me. It was generally a disaster.

Yep, you were one of the ones who popped into my head when I saw Intricate. :) I recently saw pictures of batiking, and I must say how darn impressed I am at artists who can do that. Such steady hands and skill at keeping a nice flow! It looks tremendously difficult. Your piece is equally gorgeous, but without all the glop. Absolutely gorgeous!
